Welcome to the home of the exciting new
blues band and television project, BluesNYC.
The BluesNYC Band stays true to the sounds of the blues masters,
past and present, while presenting a gritty form of original blues music that comes
from the life experience of its members growing up in and around New York City.
The BluesNYC TV Show hopes to expand the awareness of the blues
by offering artists from all musical genres an outlet to display their blues talent,
discuss their blues influences and explain how these influences shape their music today.
Check out BluesNYC's Youtube Channel for live clips
of many of the artists we've featured over the years!

Our next gig will be 10/13 at Alice Austen House on Staten Island as part of the Director's Chair Island Arts Expo.
This is not a blues crowd, more of an independent film festival and we're excited to have been
asked to perform for what will undoubtedly be an eclectic crowd.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We're honored to be heading down to Fredericksburg, VA on 11/7 to film the final concert (ever!) of
Saffire! The Uppity Blues Women. These gals have had an amazing 2 decade run as a band, but for personal
reasons have decided to pursue their music as individuals. We look forward to their individual endeavors,
but will certainly miss the magic these three bring as a trio.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now that the summer festivals are over, we'll have more time to
focus on writing, arranging and recording our original cd.
But what a summer of filming we had!
We had an amazing time at The Pocono Blues Festival, the first annual Vermont Blues Festival ,
Brigg's Farm Blues Festival, 3rd Annual Delaware River BluesFest.
We also snuck in a quick trip to Chicago where we filmed at Blue Chicago and Buddy Guy's Legends.
Watch our youtube channel for select performances from these great events!

RIP Les Paul.
While not considered a bluesman, Mr. Paul has impacted the blues through his inventions
and his playing undoubtedly inspired countless guitarists. We had the honor of spending
time with Lester over the years, and his generosity with The Atlas Foundation meant alot to us. We have a personalized guitar hanging in our studio and a few pictures with Les that will
remain pleasant reminders of this remarkably nice man who helped change music forever.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had a great time playing at New York City's
BB King's Lucille's Grill on Wednesday, March 11th.
We put up a youtube of Sitting on Top of the World from the set for those who weren't there.
Here's a link to a quick plug the Staten Island Advance gave us for the show.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Johnny Winter fans -- Johnny played a great set in Red Bank, NJ at the
Count Basie Theatre on Thursday March 5th. We've caught Johnny
there before, and he doesn't disappoint which is why we keep going back for more.
It's hard to imagine but Johnny's now an elder statesman of the blues,
and seeing him perform live, given the role he's played in blues history,
is always an opportunity we try and take advantage of!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you haven't picked up Shemekia Copeland's new CD, Never Going Back,
do yourself a favor and do it soon. We caught her recent show up in the Poconos
(oh yeah, she'll be performing at this summer's Pocono Blues Fest, btw) where her
powerful, soulful performance knocked us out. Then she was recently on David Letterman,
and the guy was blown away. Her CD features some of the musicians in Scrapomatic,
a band we've had the pleasure of filming and showcasing on our show in the past.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We were blown away by BB King on 12/6 at the beautiful
Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton, NJ.
BB showed why he is the king, holding court over a packed house.
His stories, interaction with the crowd and oh, yeah, his distinct guitar style
and singing prowess, made this a night to remember.
Our friends at Falcon Productions gave us the heads up on this show, and as always we appreciate it!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At the annual Hudson River Park Blues and BBQ on Pier 54 at West 14th St., NYC
we caught Sugar Blue, of Rolling Stones' fame, Baton Rouge's Larry Garner,
Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges and Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm
teaming up as Juke Joint Duo. We got some great footage and hope to get it out soon.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Friday, 8/15 we filmed Scrapomatic at Joe's Pub in NYC.
Guy came upon Scrapomatic through it's lead singer, Mike Mattison,
who is also the lead singer in the Derek Trucks Band. They are a very
interesting band, and have a real nice feel for blues that's
both new and traditional at the same time.
Check out their link, and we're going to edit their show this week.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've been a little late updating the site since Corey and Guy just got back from a week
in the Dominican Republic. It's a nice place to visit if you like blue water,
but if you like Muddy Waters, you won't find any down there!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just before hitting DR, Corey and guy filmed more blues talent in one
weekend at The Pocono Blues Fest than most people will see in a year! We filmed:
Bobby Rush, Sharrie Williams, Teeny Tucker, The Holmes Brothers, Michael Burks,
Ronnie Baker Brooks, Lil Dave Thompson, Byther Smith, Trudy Lynn,
Michael Roach and Johnny Mars, Root Doctor , Lurrie Bell and Terrance Simien.
Man, you can see why Pocono Blues Fest and the man who makes it all happen,
Michael Cloeren, are our favorites!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had a great time filming 7/11 and 7/12 at the
11th Annual Brigg's Farm Blues Festival in Nescopeck, PA.
We shot Nora Jean Bruso , Bobby Kyle and Johnny Rawls on Friday,
Big George Brock, Clarence Spady and Colin John/Michael Hill on Saturday.
We'd like to thank Richard and Alison Briggs for their hospitality and
hope they'll invite us back again next year!
We'll get some clips up on youtube as soon as possible.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Happy 95th Birthday, Pinetop Perkins!!!
Telarc has just released Pinetop Perkins and Friends
an album with such greats as BB King and Eric Clapton as well as a few
of our friends like Nora Jean Bruso, Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith and Bob Stroger.
Pick up this album -- it's got Grammy written all over it!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We've been putting more performance clips out on the
BluesNYC Youtube channel,
so go there and check out the various artists that we've had the
honor of capturing and get a feel for what we've witnessed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The blues and football go hand in hand! Corey and Guy
went out to Phoenix, Az to catch the big game
and Big Blue came through. The trip didn't
leave time for exploring the Arizona blues scene,
unfortunately, but hopefully there'll be other
opportunities to get out there another time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had a great night Saturday, 1/26 at The Bay Street Saloon.
Bobby Kyle and band followed up on 2/9 and did a great show.
We caught his second set after we got back from
filming Guy Davis in Hackettstown, NJ.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
JB and Guy did an impromptu gig the other night with
Arnie Galvez on harp and John (sorry I can't remember his last name)
on guitar. We also had past and present Michael Hill
members Pete Cummings (bass) and Chris Almeida (drums)
sitting in throughout the night -- and it was hot!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Staten Island Advance did a profile on us in 12/27's AWE pullout section.
Here's a link to the story
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Philadelphia Jerry Ricks died the other day. We didn't know the man personally,
never even saw him live, but we know people who called him friend --
and to see these folks do so much to try and help out is all the proof we needed
as to the talent and character of Mr Ricks. I'm sure there are still plenty
of bills left that will burden Jerry's wife Nancy, so if you can spare
anything during this holiday season, please try and help out someone who
will surely appreciate the thought:

To see Jerry in action, do a search on Youtbue for his authentic
performances of solo accoustic 1920's and 30's style blues.

We just spent two evenings with the legendary Hubert Sumlin fo his 76th birthday 'tour'.
On 11/16 we saw him at the Westchester Bar and Grill in Yonkers, NY
with an all star band backing him consisting of:
David Johansen on Wolf inspired vocals and harp (man we have loved this funky
but chic guy since high school), Levon Helm and Anton Fig creating a
double-drummer groove, Jimmy Vivino and his great blues guitar, Blondie Chaplin
adding even more guitar firepower, Mike Merrit playing upright bass
all night to give us that special old school feel you just can't get on an electric
and Brian Mitchell on piano in the corner adding great flavor to this whole blues stew.
Then on 11/17 we saw Hubert do an accoustic set at Terra Blues in Manhattan.
Accompanying Hubert at Terra was Buddy Flett , who also opened the show
on 11/16 with a solo accoustic set of some of the sweetest original
and cover delta inspired blues you're gonna hear.
We had never seen Hubert play accoustic guitar before -- it was very special!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Corey and Guy got to hang backstage with the legendary Johnny Winter
on 11/3 at an intimate theater in Huntington Long Island, The IMAC Theater.
They feature all musical genres, but of special note for blues fans --
they've got Robin Trower coming in March, '08.
Check out their site, and if you're in the neighborhood, support their shows.
And aside from our desire to catch the great Johnny Guitar in action,
we went there because Johnny and his guitar playin' manager Paul Nelson
donated a beautiful autographed Firebird guitar that was auctioned off
at the 11th Anual Teddy Dinner -- to benefit the Dr Theodore A Atlas Foundation.
It's special when great people get together with a great organization --
you know only good will come from such a union!
Special thanks to Neil Calandra, who snapped a shot of Johnny
holding up the signed guitar. This is the shot we'll use to show
folks we're not kidding when we say Johnny signed the guitar.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, we just got a hold of Sharrie Williams' new release "I'm Here To Stay",
and she ain't lyin'! Sharrie is blessed with a great voice that makes you want
to hear what she has to say, and she writes from the heart which
makes what she's sayin' worth hearing! If you want to hear a great
contemporary blues album from one of the greats in the business today
(not to mention one of the most beautiful people, inside and out,
that you could meet anywhere) do yourself a favor and grab this CD --
on Electro-Fi Records.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guy just got back from a whirlwind tour of the Delta. In Helena, Arkansas
he caught the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival
(formerly the King Biscuit Blues Festival) where he filmed
Hubert Sumlin with Willie Big Eyes Smith and Pinetop Perkins
with Bob Margolin . He also got to spend time on camera with legendary
broadcaster, Sonny Payne, of King Biscuit Time fame.
The town of Helena comes alive for this 3 day event, and the amount
of talent on the 3 stages is amazing -- but almost as impresssive are
the 'unknown' artists who play on the streets.
Then he attended Pinetop Perkins' Annual Homecoming Celebration
on Hopson's Plantation in Clarksdale, MS.
The names that came and played are too numerous to mention --
but it was a who's who of Mississippi and Arkansas blues royalty --
jamming all day on 3 stages around the plantation.
These are two events that we'd like to turn into annual BluesNYC roadtrips --
so we'll see how the schedule looks next year!
